Beware Of People Who Speak Very Softly... And Wear Sunglasses Indoors At Night.

I may be murdered in my sleep for posting this... but it's too bizarre not to share.
I almost don't know where to begin. At the beginning I suppose... So Karly and I have been posting ads on KSL and Craigslist trying to find some roommates for our empty upstairs bedrooms in our house. But when you put information out to the world wide public and invite people over to your home, it can get really weird. So we had this 55 yr old woman come over one evening... after dark... to look at the house. She was wearing dark sunglasses and spoke really soft...we'll call her "Robin." I was immediately weirded out and wanted her to be gone from my life as soon as possible. No offense to her. But when I'm that uncomfortable I don't give a damn who 's feelings get hurt. Unfortunately, she called back several times expressing an interest to move in. She said she was living in a motel paying $71 dollars a night. Every time she called it was from a different number and she started by saying, "I'm calling about the room you have on craigslist, is it still available?" So it was impossible to screen her calls. No matter how many times we spoke on the phone, the conversation always started this way. So eventually I made up an excuse and got rid of her.

That conversation was super awkward... she started asking if I'd spoken to somebody about her. Like her ex-husband or her bishop. And how she knew that I'd heard something bad about her and that she thought I was lying... which of course I was. I would have told this broad anything to be done with the whole thing. So it ended there. For the time being. I purposefully didn't post ads for 2 months, just so she could find a place and I wouldn't have the awkward possibility of her calling again.

2 months wasn't long enough.

We posted another ad and Karly started getting weird softly spoken phone calls from an older woman who was living in a motel. She came over to the house to see the room. I was downstairs the whole visit and didn't see her, but afterward Karly came down and said, "Was that weird lady from before who wore the sunglasses at night named Robin, cause i think she just came back again?"

Meanwhile I had gotten a weird email from a lady named "Davis County" about the room and had a several email long exchange. Here's how the rest of the story unfolds...

Davis County: I can pay by the week.. $99 plus $80  (the rent by the week).. would that be a possibility.. 

ME: No, sorry. We need it all at once.

ME: Hey,  Are you "Robin"? The lady who came and looked at the place in January?

Davis County: my picture is on youtube.com    "Robin"LFMS  ... that's me.

ME: There's no picture on your youtube profile. But anyway, it's really a straightforward, yes or no question. Did you come look at the house in January and again today?

Davis County: my youtube.com profile is an entire picture.. I am talking for 20 minutes straight.

ME: Ok. So the answer is YES, it is the same person who came in January, and calls from different phone numbers, and asks the same questions as if she hasn't called before, and came by the house again today to see the room as if she's never been here before.

We don't feel comfortable with this situation and think you should look for a different room to rent. Good luck, there are lots out there.

Davis County: I didn't think you were telling me the truth when I came by before.. I thought someone had said something to you or you acted strangely.. but, kept telling me that it wasn't me but that your sister was moving in... and all the rooms were suddenly occupied.. you weren't honest.  I had no idea you didn't want to rent to me particularly.. I don't know why.  You didn't say you weren't.  You were hiding something.  I don't know who talked to you or why you came to be how you were, but I didn't feel you were being honest.  I am the woman who is on the profile.. the testimony and person is me.  I don't call from different phone numbers as you are saying on purpose.  I have several phones and call from work.. I expected you to talk to me today.. I thought you were interested in renting to me.  You didn't meet me.. your wife, who I haven't met, did.  I was still interested in renting in the area.  I am not interested in renting from someone who has some sort of problem.   

ME: That's just fine. Good luck with finding a place.

Davis County: I was not impressed with your wife.

ME: Good. She's taken.

Davis County: I don't know why you keep talking to me; you're the one that's inappropriate in your behavior.  You have a picture of the Savior in your livingroom... but, yet, you're not that way.  You're inappropriate.

Davis County: I found a fantastic place, yesterday.  The people are not strange... they're not inappropriate.. they're grown-up.. open.. the way people are who deal with others.  You have problems.  You're scary.  I would not choose to be any where around you.  There's something wrong with you.  Don't write to me again.  I'm rejecting you as a personality or your character or whatever it is you are.. and you're wife is not impressive to me.

ME: Cool.

Davis County: you know I blocked you.  it should have gone straight to junk mail.. I don't know why it isn't working.  maybe tonight they'll have that up. 

ME: Right on.

So when I checked out her youtube profile and some of her videos I started getting the idea that this lady was really truly nuts. I was transported back to my time working at a psychiatric hospital. I remember back then thinking, "Oh my gosh, these people are gonna be back out walking the streets in a few days. Yikes." And sure enough they are. And this lady is. And she tried to rent a room from me.

My favorite part is when she insults Karly like it's the biggest burn she could come up with that would just strike me to the core! I can just see her sitting at her computer, glasses on, typing:  You're wife is not impressive to me.  And then saying, "Burned!" in the softest voice possible.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but empathy and understanding for the mentally ill. I wish nothing bad upon this lady. This is merely the recounting of an experience from my perspective and how bizarre it all was.
